Associate Professor George Condous

Associate Professor George Condous is a gynaecological surgeon sonologist in the field of endometriosis with appointments at Nepean Public and Private Hospitals and Sydney Adventist Hospital. He is an Associate Professor of Gynaecology at Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney, with special interests in gynaecological ultrasound imaging (EFSUMB level 3 equivalent) and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery (AGES level 6 equivalent).

He is an ambassador for the World Endometriosis Society (WES). He is also Head of Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney. He is the current Vice President of the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), current Chair of the Scientific Committee for the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) and current Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Society Board member. He is past president of the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM). He was the Co-Chair for the ISUOG World Congresses in Sydney 2013 and Singapore 2017 as well as the Chair for the WFUMB World Congress in Melbourne 2019.

A/Prof Condous performs AGES Level 6 advanced excisional laparoscopic surgery for high stage endometriosis, pelvic masses, adnexal pathology and laparoscopic hysterectomy. He set up, with A/Prof Walid Barto (Colorectal surgeon), Nepean’s first endometriosis multi-disciplinary team (MDT) which has been improving outcomes for women with severe endometriosis. Condous and Barto perform joint laparoscopic and robotic surgery for women with stage IV intestinal endometriosis at the SAN and Nepean Hospitals. Condous also runs RANZCOG accredited ‘Hands on’ Laparoscopic Workshops for Gynaecologists at the Kolling Institute, RNSH.

George is recognised internationally for his work in endometriosis and early pregnancy, he has published more than 250 peer reviewed papers and edited five books including ‘How to perform ultrasonography in Endometriosis’. He is an Ambassador for the World Endometriosis Society.
